Thank you Mr. Steinbrenner

I am not a Yankee fan by any stretch but, I am a fan of George Steinbrenner. Many people will remember George Steinbrenner for returning New York Yankees to world champions, but many do not realize how Mr. Steinbrenner helped so many off the field.
Back in 1981 a Tampa police detective and 2 Tampa firefighters lost their lives proctecting the city. Steinbrenner heard about their deaths and recognized there was no funds available for the families, so Steinbrenner created one out of his own pocket and called it The Gold Shield Foundation. The foundation provide full college scholarships to the spouses and children of police and firefighters who have given their lives in the line of duty. This is just one of the charities George Steinbrenner was a part of. Most of the time he would donate money under one condition and that was for the charity not to announce who had donated the money. In a day and age where everyone wants there name up in lights Mr. Steinbrenner didn't, he just wanted to help.
A man will never be remembered for the size of his wallet but by how often he opens it up in support of others. Mr. Steinbrenner did everything he could do to support so many communities, including Tampa. I will always remember him by he generosity and he drive to win. Thank you Mr. Steinbrenner for all you have done.
