There are rumors which are starting to gain traction about New England wide receiver Randy Moss asking for a trade. He is reportedly unhappy that he has not received a contract extension from the Patriots. He is in his final year of his current contract and to my knowledge has not been offered an extension. Why not? Randy Moss is the Patriots biggest threat on offense. If the Pats defense didn’t step up in Monday night’s game they would have lost to the Dolphins (or if Chad Henne and the Dolphins special teams would have played). Every game this season Moss had made amazing catch after catch which has bailed out the Pats, he has kept his attitude in check, and his production level are relatively the same. The answer in my opinion is NFL owners are not going to be offering any more contract extensions without knowing what the future is going to be. With the NFL and NFLPA not seeing eye to eye on any topics an NFL Lockout is right around the corner. NFL owners are only going to offer contracts to the players they deem they can’t go on without (i.e. Tom Brady).
On the flip side looking at teams which have already expressed interest in Moss, the Vikings. Brett Farve is struggling without a consistent wide receiver. The Vikings have to find a someone to fill the gaps left due to injury, and Moss would fill the gap very nicely.
Either way whichever team gets Randy Moss they will have an immediate improvement in the offense and a much happier quarterback.
